ABOUT DIS-CODE

The DIS-CODE (Disconnected, discouraged, disenabled? Let's code!) project intends to deliver an innovative training system based on gamification and interactive tools. The project aims to help students (12-18 years old) at dropout risk to acquire basic knowledge of computer programming and to promote an active and conscious usage of IT tools as a way for acquiring and embedding digital and numerical literacy.

Coding helps transversal skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, logic, apprenticeship of deductive and inductive reasoning. Digital literacy, and especially coding, is the key language necessary to be learned, as it becomes as important as being literate or numerate. DIS-CODE will train students at dropout risk to improve digital skills and mathematics by studying coding. The training methodology will be based on the flipped classroom, where the traditional lesson method is flipped, and the class lectures are replaced by home lessons, while homework is replaced by exercises in class.

The project is coordinated by Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, together with the Politecnico di Milano. It also involves six partners from five countries (Italy, Belgium, Cyprus, Portugal and Czech Republic): European Digital Learning Network, European Schoolnet, Cyprus Mathematical Society, Universidade Portucalense Infante D.Henrique-Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Crl, and Jednota skolskych Informatiku, covering a wide Region from Eastern to Southern and Western Europe.
