Learn to code: applications open for Women in Tech Scholarship
The full cost of the 16-week programme is usually £8,000 which is not an accessible figure for many. The six successful applicants will be put through a tailored programme for free with the potential of a position at ThoughtWorks at the end of the programme.
ThoughtWorks teamed up with bootcamp Makers Academy to create the ThoughtWorks Women in Tech scholarship programme to help women who are interested in a career in technology but unsure if they have the skills and ability to realise their dreams and ambition. Both organisations believe that through nurturing passionate female talent in the tech industry, and helping them develop their coding and wider business skills, they can give them a platform to succeed and provide what is needed to get ahead in the industry and help bridge the gender divide.
ThoughtWorks has worked for the past 18 months through its graduate scheme with Makers Academy, and they saw that many of the students on the programme were not straight out of university but simply passionate to learn code after a change in career. The lack of female students was evident, which led to the idea of the scholarship programme.
